My chat history disappeared

Your chat messages are saved in the LINE app on your device. For this reason, some or all of your chat history with friends will be deleted in any of the following cases.
Note: Be aware that deleted chat messages that weren't backed up beforehand cannot be restored.

• You deleted the chat yourself.
If you've backed up your chat history using Standard Backup before deleting the chat, you can restore your chat history. However, if you backed up your chat history using Standard Backup after deleting the chat, or if you're using Premium Backup, you will not be able to restore your chat history.
Note: Premium Backup is only available to LYP Premium (Japan) or LINE Premium (Thailand) members.

• You deleted (or uninstalled) the LINE app.
When you uninstall the app, all of your chat messages are deleted from your device.

If you've backed up your chat history before uninstalling the app, please reinstall the LINE app and then restore your chat history.
Note: When reinstalling the app, please skip the "Back up your chat history" and "Set up a backup PIN for your chat history" preparation steps in the Help article above.

• Your device has changed (e.g. because you had it repaired or switched to a new device).
When changing to a device running a different OS, you will not be able to restore your chat history except in the following cases.

- If you've set a backup PIN for your chat history, you can restore your chats from the last 14 days.
- If you transfer your LINE account using Premium Backup, you can restore your chat history from the period it was backed up.
Note: Premium Backup is only available to LYP Premium (Japan) or LINE Premium (Thailand) members.

You cannot restore chat messages that weren't successfully backed up, or that weren't backed up during certain periods.

We strongly recommend regularly backing up your important chats. For information about backing up your chat history, see the following Help article.
